This reminds me of a question I have been wanting to ask for quite some
time:
Having a T43-1871 with a SATA-controller most of hdparm seems to either
be not working or to be useless. For example, I can't use '-d'
(Inappropriate ioctl) or '-X' (Input/Output Error). Should these work?
Do I need another program that is designed for SCSI drives? Or is there
simply nothing to tune here?
The other thing is that 'smartctl -a /dev/sda' tells me my drive does
not support SMART, while 'hdparm -I' clearly states that it does. Do I
need to use a newer version of the smartmontools (currently 5.32)? Do I
need to turn on some options in the kernel?
