Hi, I was wondering if anyone had any tips or home remedies before I called
IBM on this one:

My system (R51) will not power from the battery. It will charge the battery,
tp_smapi and /proc/acpi/battery/* all return the expected values, and it will
discharge the battery using tp_smapi, but if you remove the AC adapter it
shuts down and will not power back up.

I've searched in Google Groups on this one and the best fit I could find said
that the AC adapter socket "lever" might be stuck in, but that was a quite
old ThinkPad, the post was from over five years ago. The AC adapter socket
looks no different than it should (compared to a working Thinkpad) and the
socket is encased in plastic so it's hard to see what could have happened.

I say "what could have happened" because this started happening after I
replaced the communications daughter card in this machine with a
Bluetooth/modem combo module. It works fine, shows up as a USB device as it
should. This ThinkPad does not have a Bluetooth antenna, so I used an antenna
wire from an old junked laptop and routed it out the opening by the left
hinge, and then taped it to the back. Reception is fine. I'm afraid I bumped
something out of joint when I did that, despite being careful. I didn't force
the wire at all, it went through just fine.

This happened less that twelve hours after I got it back from IBM on an
unrelated issue (shorted DIMM). I feel rather stupid and annoyed with myself
over the whole thing, so please be nice. :)

Anyway, if anyone knows of something I can try to fix this before I send my
machine off for repair again, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Andrew
