Ah, the never-ending question: What is the right computer for me?

And why do we keep asking this, even though it's been asked a million times
before?

Because last time it was asked buy someone who needed it for something
different than I do.

Because last time it was asked was over 6 months ago, and since then the price
of the T60 family must have dropped.

My plight: I need to quickly set up an Ubuntu laptop that I can take with me
to make a presentation at Ubuntu Live in just over 2 weeks. I need to install
the OpenMoko development environment* which means all the cross-development
tools for ARM and then the entire source for OpenMoko (kernel, apps, etc.).
It's not a huge amount of code but there is a lot to compile, and I'll be
mainly compiling with this machine.

So my priorities are:

 	1. Price
 	2. Easy install of Standard Ubuntu (not Xubuntu or anything reduced)
 	3. Whatever can be done to improve compile time, without big price increase
 	4. SVGA out to video projector for making presentations
 	5. 802.11

I'm happy to buy refurbished or used, with suitable warrenty. Any
recommendations of places you've liked, or places to avoid?

I don't watch DVDs or play games. I don't care about fancy graphics. I have no
use for eye candy.

Happy to purchase with Linux pre-installed. I know this adds to the price, but
this is offset by not having to pay for Windows, and I don't mind supporting
the companies that are selling Linux laptops.

Whatever I buy must be in-stock and able to ship or be picked up essentially
immediately.

What are your thoughts?

Thanks,
Michael
