Hardy is coming more and more stable. You just use the upgrade-manager:
sudo upgrade-manager -c
this will install new kernel etc. For wireless led to work you have then to
install the additional linux-backport-modules, there Ben Collins integrated
the Wireless LED patch - so no need to compile wireless modules yourself.
Killswitch is not working correctly with this version - but as compat
wireless are not working in a correctly way - this is no regression for
hardy.
For the record: pressing killswitch - wireless turns off, reactivating the
killswitch wireless does not work again - you have to unload and reload
iwl4965 module.

I never did use the gutsy stock kernel, compiled a 2.6.24 kernel myself (se=
e
archive of ltp) und network-manager works correctly.

Have a try.

Nobody who asks questions like these is an idiot :-) - so don` t care
about asking more questions.

When you install hardy, the only trouble is, that backlight control does 2
steps by only pressing one key (acpi video generates an event, as does
thinkpad-acpi)
When your upgrade was successfull, you can ask back about having this done.
One more problem. Hardy and Gutsy do disable wireless, if you press the
bluetooth key (FN F5) - this is not my expected behaviour - if this disturb=
s
you, also ask back on fixing, when your upgrade is done.
Have Fun
