OK, the deal is done. I bought the adapter from DVDByte for $40
including shipping. There was an eBay seller where I could have gotten
it for $5 cheaper, but they were in China and it would take 21 days to
get here.
I got the Samsung HM500LI from an Amazon seller with 100% positive
feedback for $119.99 including shipping.
So for $160 I have added 500 GB to my T61. I plan to use it mostly for
backups. Nota bad deal. Thanks to all who offered advice and
information.
