Good, I found 2.6.28 to improve my power
consumtion a lot. 2.6.27 did generate a lot of
interupts from the i915 chip.

You need a swap partition for hibernation. Swap
also helps against memory fragmentation. OTOH my
swap isn't really used with two gigabytes of RAM,
so it shouldn't really matter, but it doesn't
hurt to have it. You could also use a swap file.

I would use the default FS of your distribution.
I'm not sure if there is anything optimized for
