Try looking in /var/log/acpid.log.  acpid + the scripts in /etc/acpi
*might* be that other tool.  (Usually /etc/acpi/sleep.sh checks to see
if gnome-power-manager is running and then ignores the sleep event, but
maybe that check is somehow broken on your machine.)
