[ltp] T43: closing stops the machine under ubuntu

Hallo,
I'm running some Thinkpads (T2x, T4x). Some of them work as a kind of
server (unattended, closed, no energy saving).
Under T2x (and especially under Windows) I can close the display and the
machine runs without any problem.
Now I'm playing on a T43 with Ubuntu 9.10 and Kernel 2.6.39.1 (self
made, based on SuSE kernel 2.6.37.6 config)
cat /proc/acpi/wakeup
tells "LID *enabled"
When I close the machine then it goes to sleep - it stops the hard disk,
it cuts the network connection etc.
Wakening is awfully: I have to go to the machine, open it, push some
keys, type my password etc.
echo LID > /proc/acpi/wakeup
changes the contents to "disabled" but seems to change nothing else.
What can I do, what should I do?
Viele Gruesse!
Helmut
