Pretty sure that USB connector is NOT a power adaptor connector.
Looking at my old T430, it has such a connector and it's just ordinary
USB (even has a little USB symbol on it).
Later Thinkpads (my L440 or E575 for example) have a rectangular
USB-sized slot for the power but it only has a hole for one central pin
- very easy to see looking at it. So the power adaptor plug looks
like USB externally but isn't (and wont physically fit in a USB slot,
which is probably just as well).
Subject to what others have said, I think so long as you get the
voltage right, any adapter will work. In my long collection of
Thinkpads (A20 R40 R50 R60 X201 T520 T430 L440 E575) I've played
mix-n-match with adaptors and so long as the voltage was right, it's
always worked OK. Maybe not optimally, I can't tell, but adequately.
The L440 and E575 have the new rectangular slot (USB-shaped) plug, still
20v, I actually have a short little adapter cable that fits on the
large round end of the older 20v adapters (for T430 and the like) and
fits the L440/E575.
