Yes, and yes. The only safe way to install the differences from
either 7.0 or 7.1 to 7.2 is to download the entire 7.2 version. If
you really wanted to avoid another major download (and were happy to
do without ext3) then you could simply download all of the updates for
7.1 and probably run quite happily that way.

I'm not as paranoid as Tod Harter sounds (to me) about upgrading
versus a complete re-install of your OS, although I have seen things
that didn't upgrade 100% properly. Mind you - if you customize the
look and feel of your install as much as I do (or even more) then
you'd probably prefer the upgrade instead of the re-install as there's
a lot to do to re-customize your system to you liking. However if you
use a pretty vanilla system, then indeed I would recommend starting
from scratch - it would make things easier.

Sounds like you have a bit of learning to do in general - and really
the best way to do that is to spend some time arguing with it. For
example, I think it was you who asked what and RPM is. I don't know
of any *one* resource to point you at for answers to all your
questions (as you'll probably have many more like that) but check out
the HOWTO documents that can be found on the web and they'll point you
in the right direction. By the way - an RPM is a RedHat Package
Manager archive of either source or object code that can be installed
on your system. That way instead of recompiling your code (and trying
to figure out where it should be installed) you simply tell the
package manager to "make it so." Uninstallation becomes as easy.

Anyway, good luck with it. Do some reading. Do some experiments (on a
test system - not a production one. ;) ) And come ask when you need
pointers as to what to try next.

Enjoy,

Adam Benjamin
