as a follow-up, here's the example i followed to enable my ir port (for
syncing my handspring visor handheld).

i can't remember if i followed those instructions exactly, or if/where i
deviated from them.  that was also a 2.2 kernel, and haven't tried ir
syncing since upgrading to 2.4.  i also have a 770x, where the
instructions/example is for a 560x.

maybe helpful, maybe not.
