Duncan,

  Backing off and starting from scratch sounds like good advice. I will
work on it. I just picked up a Siemens Speedstream pcmcia card and tried
it. Same deal, the Mandrake system, both 2.4 and 2.6 doesn't "support"
the card. I get the same type output from cardctrl and pcmcia restart
with that card.

  But unlike the Xircon modem/ethernet card, when I go into Mandrake
Control Center, the cards(Belkin and Siemens) are not listed. Why this
is so is the question I have to answer.
