this thread demonstrates how poor I am in writing in English.

No. The screen looks a little fuzzy, slightly double edged on my 
laptop's LCD when I specify a different screen resolution in GNOME.

When the LCD is run at it's native 1400x1050 the definition is VERY 
GOOD. When I switch the resolution to 1280x1024 or 1024x768 the LCD 
screen looks almost OK but a less defined, the fonts a little "ghosted".

The LCD screen is NOT run "expanded". When I go to lower resolutions the 
image is centered in the LCD with black edged around (hope I managed to 
explain myself this time).

Hard to tell if it's only the fonts. Sure it is the fonts that show this 
effect more than anything else.
