[ltp] Dual monitor setup on T42p, anyone? (partially solved)

I new I should not have done it! As soon as I posted the previous message, my
machine got killed again. I could ssh into it and restart KDE with "init 4"
however I couldn't get the text console back.
Anyway, the culprit turned out to be OpenOffice. It consistently is having
this problem with the ATI driver. Once I switched back to Xorg's radeon
driver, OO works fine. Now, that's a tough choice: one screen or having to do
documents under Word/Win4Lin ;-(
Any ideas what may be causing this problem?
