Glad its all working for you.

The best Linux distribution is the one that works for you. In my experience =

some distributions are a bit more "cutting edge" than others so the version =

of programmes provided will be newer. Some people prefer this but if you=20
were running a mission critical server you'd probably want slightly older=20
but well proven versions. If you had built alsa 1.0.6 on your Redhat system =

then the odds are that alsaconf would have done the bis.

One of the things I like about Mandrake is that their mirrors carry a=20
contrib directory that holds "unofficial" packages. Other distros might do=20
this now but didn't if I used them in the past. In my case this means that=20
there are 4 or 5 packages that I don't have to build every time I upgrade.

If you're going to hang around with Mandrake for a while I'd recommend=20
joining the newbie and expert mailing list where you can get answers to=20
questions from people useing the same distro, they're a very helpful bunch.

Details can be found at

http://www.mandrakelinux.com/en/flists.php3

Finally, if you're going to use it for a while please consider joining the=20
Mandrake Club. This feeds something back to Mandrake so that they can=20
continue and provides some perks. See

http://www.mandrakelinux.com/en/club/

Advert over, and no, I don't work for Mandrake :)

Enjoy
Nigel
